Who he was
Born Jogaila, he was the Grand Duke of Lithuania who became King of Poland in 1386, uniting two nations under one crown and founding the Jagiellonian dynasty that would rule for nearly 200 years.
- The hero of Grunwald. In 1410 his combined Polish-Lithuanian army crushed the Teutonic Knights in one of the largest battles of medieval Europe.
- A founder of nations. His union of Poland and Lithuania built one of the great powers of its age.
